You may have heard about the new Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate that’s available for care workers like you. As a prospective learner, Impact Futures understands that you likely have questions about how it may benefit your professional journey in the care industry.
Read on, as we uncover the answers to 7 of the most common queries we’ve had so far about the qualification. Hopefully, you’ll get a sense of the value the certificate could add to your career - especially if you don’t currently have any formal credentials.
Let’s go!
It's an exciting new qualification developed by the Department of Health and Social Care, in collaboration with Skills for Care. It's designed specifically for individuals like you, working in adult social care roles. It aims to equip you with essential skills, knowledge, and expertise so you can excel at your job and elevate care quality.
If you currently work in a direct adult social care role, and you are aged 19 or over, then yes! Example roles it applies to include care workers, senior care staff, rehabilitation specialists, community support workers, and outreach roles.
Don’t worry if you don’t currently hold any formal, accredited qualifications. Approximately 50% of the current care workforce are in the same boat. The Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate will validate your experience so far. You deserve the recognition!
The difference between the existing Care Certificate and this new Level 2 qualification, is that it’s accredited. This ensures quality and recognition across different employers. This also means you won't have to retake it if you change jobs, allowing you to ‘hit the ground running’ at your new workplace - saving you and your employer time and money.
Impact Futures will work with your employer to find ways of funding your course. Providing your company acts quickly, they may be able to claim back your course fees as part of a limited government funding scheme (they must be registered on the Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set).
One thing to consider is that your employer’s reimbursement only covers the course fee itself, and not additional costs like travel and stationery. They must make their reimbursement claims via the online platform to get the money back. Don’t worry about your employer being out of pocket. They’ll have the option to claim 60% of costs upfront once you begin the course, and the remaining 40% after you complete it.
The 15 key topics of the qualification include:
… and more. You'll gain practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and behaviours directly applicable to adult social care roles and delivering compassionate, ethical care.
The entire course is delivered online via a comprehensive e-learning platform. This gives you maximum flexibility to learn wherever you are - whether at work or at home.
That’s okay - this updated certificate would serve as a terrific refresher course, and ensure your qualifications are in line with the latest learning. However, your employer's eligibility for government funding may be impacted if you already hold an equivalent Level 2 credential.
You stand to gain a lot from the new Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate. You’re an important part of the care workforce. This qualification is a fantastic step forward in making sure your hard work and professional development are recognised. With its modern practices, and the incorporation of essential digital skills, this learning has the potential to truly elevate you, and enhance your standing in the field. Impact Futures cannot wait to support you on your journey.
