In a bid to tackle qualified staff shortages in the adult care sector, the UK government has launched a new Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate. Developed by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) in collaboration with Skills for Care, this certificate aims to support care workers in gaining a recognised qualification - whether they are UK residents, or working in the UK on a visa.

The Ofqual-approved Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate qualification covers 15 key topics and areas, including:

  • Infection prevention and control
  • Safeguarding

Learning Foundations

Month 1

Personal Development, & Communication

Begin with the self-directed Learning Foundations module, and explore your own role and identify areas for own personal development. We will also dive in to working relationships in care settings. We will then cover the importance of communication, handling information and accessing support.

Month 2

Duty of Care & Safeguarding

In this module, we will cover the duty of care, it's true meaning and the support available to you for addressing dilemmas. We will also look at adult safeguarding, the requirement for action, legislation, requirements and responsibilities within safeguarding too.

Month 3

Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Health & Safety

We will look at the meaning of EDI, and how it can be applied in the workplace, and understand all principles incolved. We will also cover the promotion of Health & Safety, working practices, and importance, and responsbilities where H&S is concerned.

Month 4

Basic Life Support & Infection Prevention

As we approach month 4, we will being looking at the principles of basic life support, medication and healthcare tasks. This will involve identifying common hazards, and managing mental health and personal wellbeing. We will also cover infection prevention and control, the standard precautions, and a demonstration of how to prevent.

Month 5

Nutrition, Hydration, and Person-Centered Working

In this module we will cover the principles of nutrition and hydration, importance of food safety, and how this links in to maintaining health and wellbeing. We will also cover person-centred working, the principles of gaining consent, encouraging active participation, and supporting wellbeing.

Month 6

Mental Health, Dementia, Disabilities, and Autism Awareness

As we approach the end of your course, we will cover the needs and experiences of people living with mental health conditions or dementia, and how legal frameworks and guidelines can support those individuals. We will also cover supporting those with a learning disability and autistic people, and how to meet their communication and information needs.

The UK care sector is suffering a shortage of qualified staff. Impact Futures is enabling workforce's and individuals with a passion for care excellence to obtain the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to ease this industry burden, as well as facilitate meaningful careers and a high standard of care delivery.

Now, the UK government has also taken action in the form of this new qualification, in an effort to ease the pressure on social care organisations, and facilitate an influx of freshly qualified care professionals, to reinvigorate the sector.

There is a very limited amount of government funding available via the Learning and Development Support Scheme (LDSS) for the adult social care workforce, offered by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) for the financial year of 2024 to 2025. Applicants are advised to act quickly if they want to secure a portion of the funding pot to cover course costs.

Employers can claim up to £1,500 per learner for the Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate, but government funding is limited. It works as a reimbursement scheme. Claims can be submitted for 60% of the costs upon course commencement, and the remaining 40% upon completion.

If government funds cannot be obtained, Impact Futures will work with employers to identify funding alternatives, such as levy funds or other schemes that may be available.

The Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate is created from the 15 widely used Care Certificate standards, this qualification ensures the best practices are upheld.

Available to individuals aged 19+ in direct care roles, including non-UK nationals with legal employment status.

The total qualification time is 369 hours, and it is typically completed in 6 months. This can however be completed sooner depending on your personal circumstances.

The Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate is an exciting new qualification, developed by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) in collaboration with Skills for Care. Launching in June 2024, this certificate is specifically designed for individuals working in adult social care settings. It aims to equip staff with the essential skills, knowledge, and expertise needed to excel in their care roles.

Unlike the existing Care Certificate, this new qualification will be accredited, ensuring its quality and recognition across different roles and organisations. This means you won't need to retake the Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate if you change roles, saving both time and money for you and your business.

There is a very limited amount of government funding available via the Learning and Development Support Scheme (LDSS) for the adult social care workforce, offered by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) for the financial year of 2024 to 2025. Adult Social Care employers in England, in both Care Quality (CQC) regulated and non-regulated care settings, can apply for funding towards the cost of the new Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate. It applies to both new and existing employees aged 19 and over, working in direct adult social care roles only. Employers must also be registered on the Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set (AS-WDS).

All modules have been carefully structured to provide learners with both the practical skills and theoretical knowledge that are directly applicable to roles in the adult social care setting.

The entirety of this course can be accessed online. While traditional classroom training has long been the norm, Impact Futures uses e-learning for maximum flexibility and convenience. Online learning presents numerous benefits for care home leaders and their teams.

The assessment methods for your knowledge and skills will vary by unit. These will include practical and skills-based evaluations, such as direct observation and professional discussions, conducted by our experienced assessors.

With our e-learning approach, the duration of the Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate qualification is fully flexible to accommodate your schedule. However, at Impact Futures we expect the average completion time to be around six months.
