In our latest “we sat down with…” style interview, we were joined by our wonderful apprentice, Amanda Syuleyman. Together we chatted about her story so far, what inspired her to complete an apprenticeship programme, the main benefits of this training and her exciting plans for the future. CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, AMANDA?

I am a Mum, a wife, a Nanny and a diligent worker with ambitions. I have worked in many different healthcare settings, from residential to community care, hospital ward support and now a rehabilitation unit under FHFT. In my current role, I am an enhanced support worker.

WHY CHOOSE AN APPRENTICESHIP?

I am passionate about others and my long-term goal has always been to work in a role where I am training teams to become the best versions of themselves, they can be, delivering 100% outstanding care. I guess you could say I want to help others unlock their potential. With this in mind, I applied for a position in clinical education and was sadly unsuccessful. Why? This was a question that played on my mind and so I requested some feedback. The response was simple, the other candidate had more qualifications and theoretical training than I have. So this lit a fire within me, to push myself to achieve more. I chatted it through with my manager and she backed me all the way. She still backs me now and is so encouraging, always championingme and the rest of our organisation to achieve our goals.

HOW HAS YOUR APPRENTICESHIP BENEFITTED YOU?

I have gained so much more knowledge, skills and first-hand experience with other professionals as I have been able to apply my training to my daily job role. I do believe I have covered everything required of me to date, and I have put my heart and soul into my studies, so I am hopeful that this programme will be life changing for me, and a step in theright direction to achieve my ambitions.

HOW HAS IT BEEN LEARNING WITH IMPACT FUTURES?

I have an amazing coach, Janine, who has been so helpful and supported me throughout this entire process. She has always been so readily available whenever I’ve needed her help.

I have already spoken about my next steps and continuing my training and career development with another apprenticeship programme.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE FUTURE?

I know my future is in clinical education.

I would like to continue what I am currently doing, and as I mentioned earlier on, help others to be the best healthcare workers they can be.
