Early Years Education Essentials - Skills Bootcamp: Programme Overview

Our ‘Early Years Education Essentials - Skills Bootcamp’ will equip you with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to secure a role in the early years sector.

By the end of the course, you will have developed essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours to enhance your performance and accelerate your career.

Upon completion, you’ll be awarded a Certificate of Completion, a TQUK Safeguarding Certificate, and a FRFA Paediatric First Aid Certificate.


Eligibility Criteria

The learner must:

  • Be 19 years of age or over
  • Have the right to work in the UK whilst completing the Skills Bootcamp
  • Live in England
  • Be un-employed, self-employed or employed but looking to change career
  • Not have completed a Skills Bootcamp with any provider in the last 12 months
  • Not be planning to attend another Skills Bootcamp at the same time or before April 2025
  • Be able to commit to a 10-week virtual course, including one day of face-to-face training for paediatric first aid

CIAG Support
We also provide a weekly CIAG spotlight that equips learners with the skills needed to secure employment in the Early Years sector, including CV writing, job applications, cover letters, and more.

Additional Support

What will you learn during your Early Years Bootcamp?

The programme will be delivered on a module basis. Each module and learning session has its own learning objectives and subject matter. Content will develop the learners’ skills, knowledge, and behaviours to support career progression.

Week 1

Health, Safety and Risky Play (6 hours)

  • Understanding health, safety and security.
  • Legislation around health and safety.
  • Risk assessments and risk management.
  • Supporting children to recognise risks and keep themselves safe.
  •  The importance of risky play.
  • Supporting children’s wellbeing and resilience.
  • Healthy lifestyles.
Week 2

Prevent and British Values (6 hours)

  • Understanding the Prevent Duty.
  • Terms and definitions around the Prevent Duty.
  • Recognising signs of radicalization.
  • How to respond to concerns about a child relating to radicalization.
  • Prevent Referrals.
  • Understanding the British Values.
  • How British Values are implemented in the early years sector.
Week 3

Safeguarding (6 hours)

  • Different terms around safeguarding and child protection.
  • Legislation and guidance that underpin safeguarding and child protection.
  • Policies and procedures that cover safeguarding and child protection.
  • Roles and responsibilities of those working in early years when it comes to safeguarding.
  • Different types of abuse and their signs.
  • Responding to evidence and concerns of abuse to protect children.
  • Record keeping relating to safeguarding and child protection.
  • Multiagency working and effective communication.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math’s (STEM) (6 hours)

  • Understanding STEM.
  • The breakdown of STEM.
    - (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math’s).

  • First Aid: Introduction to the e-learning module.

Child Development and Theories (6 hours)

  • Patterns of development from birth to 7 years.

  • Be able to assess an emergency situation and prioritize what action to take.

Safeguarding and First Aid

Our Early Years Education Essential Skills Bootcamp also comprises of two dedicated modules that form an important part of the bootcamp and upon completion, both modules will award their own certificates.

The safeguarding module that is delivered in week 3 is a 6-hour, TQUK accredited topic and will comprise of units such as child protection, legislation, policies and procedures, and signs of abuse.

The paediatric first aid module is a blended delivery approach, which will involve an online, 6-hour e-learning module as well as a 6-hour face to face component that is delivered by our sister company, First Response First Aid (FRFA).

Frequently Asked Questions

Skills Bootcamps are flexible training courses for adults aged 19 and over. They can last up to 16 weeks and offer participants a job interview on completion. You can use this scheme to hire new staff or upskill existing staff.

To be eligible for a Skills Bootcamp, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be 19 years of age or over.
  • Have the right to work in the UK while completing the Skills Bootcamp.
  • Live in England.
  • Be unemployed, self-employed, or employed but looking to change careers.
  • Not have completed a Skills Bootcamp with any provider in the last 12 months.
  • Not be planning to attend another Skills Bootcamp at the same time or before April 2025.
  • Be able to commit to a 10-week virtual course, including one day of face-to-face training for paediatric first aid.

If you are unemployed, employed but looking for a career change, or an employer recruiting someone who has completed a Skills Bootcamp, there is no cost.

Large employers looking to upskill their current staff will contribute 30% of the cost for their staff members upskilling. Small or medium employers (SMEs) will contribute 10% for their staff members upskilling.

All you need is a laptop or desktop computer, with a working camera and microphone to take part in the virtual live learning sessions alongside a reliable internet connection.

You must be committed to 6 hours of weekly live learning sessions within our Skills Bootcamps for up to 10 weeks.
