Liayle Morgan: Gaining confidence through training

Level 5 Leader in Adult Care apprentice with Swanton Care

About Liayle

“It’s made me look at things from a different approach and evaluate my work practices.”

Liayle Morgan followed a conventional educational path from leaving school: after further study at college, he graduated in sociology at university before entering the job market. It was not until there, however, at work, where Liayle’s professional development really began. Within six months of graduating, Liayle had secured a job at Swanton Care as a Support Worker, where he found that new doors opened for his future in adult care work.

By enrolling on and successfully completing the level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker apprenticeship with Impact Futures, Liayle was able to work his way up to a senior role with Swanton Care, becoming a Deputy Manager. With his sights firmly set on becoming a registered manager in a care environment, the level 5 Leader in Adult Care apprenticeship was the next stepping-stone for Liayle’s future.

The Lead Adult Care apprenticeships with Impact Futures equip learners in the care industry with the skills, knowledge and behaviours to lead on the provision of care for adults with care needs, providing empathetic, competent and safe support and assistance. Learners like Liayle benefit from gaining the TQUK Diploma with the level 3 Adult Care Lead, and the level 5 TQUK Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care in the level 5 leader apprenticeship upon completion- a further career bolstering qualification achieved while working hands-on in the sector.

Liayle found that the support he’s been offered, and the paced learning and assessment approach of the apprenticeships has suited him, having always been better at coursework than traditional examinations. He also benefited throughout from the support of his manager during the apprenticeships, adding that if he ever became stuck, his line manager has always been “there to help, give support or advice.” Liayle added that “being able to work and gain experience, then put that into the course is beneficial."

After a brief change of assessors, Liayle’s apprenticeship journey has been an extremely positive one. When asked about his experiences and how he’s managed working while gaining a qualification, Liayle found that balancing the two was where the strength of the apprenticeship route lies: “I feel thoroughly supported, and it’s gotten me so far on. I’d say it’s about trying to balance everything, use your experience from your workplace, using different approaches to your advantage and using work to build on your knowledge and experience.” Liayle has also enjoyed the flexibility of the apprenticeship pathway, adding that there is room to progress at your own pace: “there are time frames and things to stick to, but you can fit it in where you need to.”

Liayle’s professional journey is ongoing. With the demand for care workers higher than ever in the UK, opportunities for development and growth within the sector are promising. Liayle has his sights set on senior roles in the care industry, wanting to work his way up even further after becoming a manager. He is currently waiting on the outcome of an interview for a schemed manager position, which he says the level 5 apprenticeship has given him the confidence to go for. For Liayle, it’s about always working towards the next step to achieve professional success, job satisfaction and personal rewards.
